It’s the second week of January and so far I haven’t been doing amazing at maintaining my blog. I didn’t realize how hard it is to juggle work, my blog and taking 4 online college classes this semester. I don’t want to fail my classes so I’m having to sacrifice my blogging time 😥
My reading is nowhere near extinct though! So far I’ve finished 3 books for this year already and I’m working my way through 10 or so more books. I haven’t done a formal TBR list but I have a few books that came in from the library so those will be my TBR list until I finish every one of them. No pressure haha
The three books I’ve finished so far are Sin & Magic by K.F. Breene, The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud and Written in Red by Anne Bishop. I don’t feel they warrant their own reviews so I’ll do a round of minis instead.
Sin & Magic (Demigods of San Francisco #2) by K.F. Breene
I read this book from my Kindle Unlimited subscription. If you have it, I highly, highly urge you to read her work! She writes really well urban fantasy and her characters are super charming and hilarious! This is my second series from her and the only thing I’ve noticed is her plots seems to be formulaic. I don’t mind it though, it just got a little familiar while I was working through this novel. I still recommend it though!
The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus #1) by Jonathan Stroud
This started out shaky because the writing style was too formal initially. I thought it was going to be one of those fantasy works that tried too hard by using flowery writing that got over people’s heads. Thankfully, when I kept reading it, the story picked up and the writing style changed course. This ended up to be a pretty solid Middle Grade (YA?) book! The end of this book was a massive cliffhanger for me and I can’t wait until th next book comes in my library!
Written in Red (The Others #1) Anne Bishop
Okay, I’m a big fantasy reader, more adult than YA but nonetheless. I am so glad I’ve finally read an Anne Bishop! This book WAS SO GOOD. It has all kinds of supernatural that you can think of, the MC is written super interestingly and the story + villains are superb! I don’t even think reading the synopsis justifies what is between the pages. If you love a humorous but suspenseful, magical read, give this one a go! It won’t go wrong.
These are all that I’ve read the past few days! I am pretty proud of myself if I’m being honest 😊 If I continue this trend, it’s going to be an awesome reading year. How are you guys doing? Is this month looking good? Comment down below, let’s talk about it!
